New Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish

14 days of gel like wear and shine with no UV light? Easy removal? Can do it myself at home? Sign me up! After trying gel nails for the first time this spring, I was feeling conflicted. I loved the shine and wear, but the removal and aftermath was the worst. I’d do a gel manicure again for a special occasion, but it wasn’t going to work for everyday. I love Essie colors, so when I heard they had a new 14 day gel manicure collection, I figured I’d try it out and see if it really worked!

Since I was just starting out with this line, I bought a little duo consisting of the color Sew Me and the top coat. This saved me about 3 or 4 dollars. Each nail polish runs for $11.50 which is a little more than usual Essie colors but still affordable! The bottle are the same size as regular Essie colors but come in a twisted shape to mimic the twisted brush inside.

I’ve worn Sew Me twice now, so I can give you some good feedback, I hope. Each time I’d say I wore the nail color for about 10 days, I just couldn’t get to 14 without feeling gross.

To apply, I followed the directions on the back of the box. I didn’t use a base coat, applied two coats (although some nails really needed 3 so I did that) and applied one layer of top coat. It dried quickly and looked very nice and shiny.

I’d say the nail polish wore well for 3-4 days, but then quickly started to chip just like any other polish. Nail polish tends to chip fast one me, I have really weak nails. I expected this to last longer but it really didn’t.

The nails where I had to apply 3 coats were the worst off, so I guess that is because of too much application. The color was just too thin to not add the third coat. I’m assume darker colors apply better.

The application process was good though. The color glided on very smooth and dried pretty quickly. After applying the top coat the nails were very shiny just like a gel manicure would be!

As a regular nail polish, it was fine. As a gel polish, well, it didn’t live up to the packaging. I didn’t find it lasted at all like a gel manicure! I do really like the color though, and would buy another one to try out since the formula is good (as a regular nail polish). For now, I’ll stick to my weekly manicures at home with regular polish!

  1. I’m so glad to see your review because I wanted to try this duo. In fact, I have been looking for Sew Me but every time I go to CVS they have colors I don’t want. I’m happy to hear that you get 10+ days from it. I will keep my eyes peeled for this shade

  2. I was curious about these because I love gel manis but I can’t get them all the time. I also love Essie polishes, but they always chip so easy. I was skeptical about these new Essie gels since I tried the Sally Hansen version of an at home, UV-less gel mani kit and it was not great, but 10 days still sounds pretty good to me!

  3. It’s such a shame that this product wasn’t good enough, the colour is gorgeous! Just followed your blog too, would be amazing if you could check out and follow me? Look forward to reading your future posts!Xx
