A few months back I purchased the Reviva Labs Alpha Lipoic Acid cream from Vitacost. It was my first purchase from the company, and I loved how simple yet effective it was, plus the company is based not far from me! Lucky little me, Reviva Labs sent me another one of their products to try, the 5% Glycolic Acid Cream and boy was I excited as I’d heard about this product before! I’d used glycolic acid in one of my favorite products, so I knew this would be a fun product to try.
I have skin that tends to lean dry, and has no problem absorbing layers worth of products. Despite being dry, I tend to have very noticeable pores on my cheeks, nose and chin. I’ve just reached an age (25) where I’m looking more into anti-aging and preventative skin care.
My skin loves exfoliation, both chemical and physical. It always looks better after a good scrubbin’ or I’ve used an exfoliating toner. The Reviva Labs 5% Glycolic Acid Cream is a great chemical exfoliater for me because it gets the chemical job done, but keeps my skin hydrated.
I’ve been using this for about 3 weeks, and I must say, I can see some difference! I’m really loving this product, and for sure need to get my boyfriend on this bandwagon to deal with his acne scarring.
The formula is a liquidy cream that sinks into the skin quickly, not feeling heavy at all. While my skin is dry, it doesn’t like heavy products. No breakouts here!
About Glycolic Acid:
Glycolic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) derived from sugar cane. Glycolic acid is one of the most well-known and commonly used AHAs. It is used in creams, cleansers, masks, and moisturizers to smooth wrinkles, reduce hyperpigmentation, lessen sun damage, and generally improve skin’s tone and texture.
Glycolic acid easily penetrates the outer layers of the skin because of the small size of its molecules. It acts as an exfoliant, facilitating dead skin cells to slough off. Skin feels softer and smoother, and its overall appearance is enhanced.
While many over-the-counter products contain glycolic acid, it is also found in stronger concentrations as chemical peels, available at dermatologist’s offices and salons.
I find the glycolic acid in this product has helped my pores remain clearer, and my skin softer. Overall, my skin just feels so good. I feel like I don’t need to wear as much make up, and the few acne scars I had are fading.
I use the product ever other day, because it is a bit intense. I found the first few times I used it a bit of stinging, but that has mostly gone away now. If you have sensitive skin, maybe stick to every three days. Reviva Labs also has a 10% Glycolic Acid, but that might be too much for me!
While the labels says ‘for mature skin’ I think most people could find a benefit from this product, whether they use it everyday, or just when necessary. My skin is loving it! I look forward to seeing what more it can do for me down the road.
