I’ll just say right now, 2015 was the year of the lip. And the nail. When going through my monthly favorites for the past year, I kept thinking “I loved that lip color!” “That lipstick is amazing!” “Lips, lips lips!” And so, even though I could have made it more diverse, this 2015 make up favorites is lip heavy, and I even paired it down. I also tried a lot of nail colors I just really, really, loved this year. Other make up wise, there just wasn’t a lot of new stuff. I think 2016 will be the year of the foundation though. I’ve got to move past lipstick.
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Tulip
A good go to lip color has three things for me. 1) A wearable, everyday shade 2) Easy to throw on and 3) Doesn’t dry my lips out. I love the shade of Tulip because it’s a bright pink but sheer so it’s not crazy. I can throw this on when I run out the door, but still look amazing. The lemony scent ain’t so bad either! I love all the Sugar Lip Treatments I have, but this shade is the winner.
Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color in Devotion
I’ve gotten more into wearing highly pigmented shades in the past few months, and the shade Devotion from Revlon’s new HD line is a great jumping off point. It’s a wearable shade of pink, but very saturated to pack a bigger punch. It wears well, but doesn’t stick to your lips and get uncomfortable. I’ve only had it for a few months but I’ve worn it a ton.
Maybelline Color Elixir in Captivating Carnation
I actually got this lipgloss a while ago, but I’ve noticed it ends up in my purse often, which means I must be using it a lot! I think this shade is just perfections. It’s bright than ‘my lips but better’ and has the perfect amount of gloss. The best part of the Color Elixirs is the formula. It’s a very creamy gloss, rather than sticky so it is super comfortable to wear all day.
Butter London Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Teddy Boy
When I received the Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons from Butter London in 2015, I really felt spoiled. All the shades were so amazing, and I was quick to try them all. I’ve worn all the shades a bunch of times, but the shade Teddy Boy is just so obviously a favorite. It fits in perfectly with my preferred lip colors. It’s easy to apply, feels comfortable on the lips, and wears for a few hours.
L to R: Fresh, Revlon, Maybelline, Butter London
So obviously I like the same kind of shades…but they are all different formulas!
NARS Creamy Concealer in Custard
I think the concealer market has really changed in recent years. I feel like there are so many new ones out there for just about every kind of coverage you could imagine. I picked up the NARS concealer after hearing everyone talk about it, and then I threw out all my other concealers. It isn’t going to cover super bad spots, but it does the job for everyday. I use it on my face and under my eyes. It’s creamy and easy to blend, and doesn’t get cakey or creased looking!
Covergirl Lash Blast Volume in Waterproof
Originally posted in December Favorites
This mascara was very much so a late comer this year, but I knew almost instantly that it was the best mascara I’d tried all year. Covergirl makes the best mascaras in my opinion! I picked Lash Blast up after asking for recommendations on a mascara that would give me false-ish looking lashes that held a curl. It works! My lashes look like they’ve never looked before. It’s a little hard to get off, but I find that to be true with all waterproof eye products. Just takes a little extra effort.
Benefit Gimme Brow
This may be my #1 favorite of 2015. I picked it up in February (I remember I made the BF go into Sephora with me on Valentine’s Day) and used it all year long. I really think I need to get a new one because it’s getting a little gunky. I actually switch between this and a clear brow gel depending on the rest of my look. I’m not really into brows, but the Gimme Brow is so easy to use and gives to enough color and shape to pull a look together. The brown shade has a tinge of grey to it, instead of being on the red side like a lot of other brow gels. The little tube is adorable, and has lasted a surprisingly long time.
Julep Penny, Burnished bronze metallic
The first time I used Penny, I was in love. I love the metallic finish, and the copper shade isn’t too red. It’s a great sort of neutral color, but looks so pretty on the nails.
Julep Ann, Passion punch ghost shimmer crème
By some twist of fate, the other shade I really loved this year from Julep came in the SAME Maven box as Penny! I wasn’t too happy with Ann when I first got it (I was hoping it’d be a little paler and peachier) but I ended up really loving it when I did a manicure. I love pink nails!
Butter London Statement Piece, Opaque Orange Red, Creme
A red nail will be the forever classic. I have…jeez…6 or so red nail polishes, but they are all just enough different from each other. Statement Piece is a red orange, so it reads a lot differently than the cool toned red shades I usually wear. I love this color so much because it’s bright and fun, but not crazy because it is still a red.
There you have it folks, 2015! My top ten products I used a lot and loved a lot this year. Here’s to hoping I branch out a little and try some things that aren’t lip sticks this year!
