I think it was 7th grade when I first started using hair products. That was…over 10 years ago, and I still haven’t found the perfect one. Every time I think I like something, I end up changing my mind! I’m pretty sure I really really liked the Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls, but I found it made my hair greasy quickly. After finishing that I decided to try yet another new product from one of my favorite hair companies, Aveda. Well, it’s still not perfect, but it’s close, and it’s fine for now!
The salon I went to in college used all Aveda products. I love, love, love, that smell of Aveda hair care. They have a huge range that covers all hair types and needs so everyone can find something for them. Once upon a time my stylist recommended the Be Curly Curl Enhancer, and look at me, finally getting around to trying it out.
After my shower every morning, I let my hair dry a bit while I do my make up. Then I brush out the top a bit and fix my part. If it’s a day I’m actually doing my hair, I squeeze a hefty amount of the Aveda Curl Enhancer into my hands and try to apply to every strand of my hair. Then I take about 1 inch sections and twirl them away from my face to encourage the curls to look right.
I then let air dry, because my hair poofs up like crazy when it sees a blow drier.
The Curl Enhancer doesn’t really have that Aveda scent, in fact it doesn’t really have any scent, which is totally fine with me. It’s a bit liquidy in consistency compared to the Miss Jessie’s or Moroccanoil creams. That means it’s easier to smooth throughout my hair, and there is less risk of getting too much product in one place and getting crunchy.
I’m usually doing my hair pre-caffiene, so I need a product that can make my hair look as great as possible without much effort. I don’t think the Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer has as much hold as I need for my thick hair. As the day goes on my hair tends to fluff up a bit because there isn’t anything to hold onto. I don’t want to use to much product because I don’t want to risk crunchy hair.
I will say it makes my hair feel quite soft and definitely boosts shine, like the bottle says it’s supposed too. If you have very light waves and just need to reduce frizz, I think this is great. I need something with more hold because I do have curls.
I’ll continue using this for now, because I don’t like wasting product, but I probably will go back to the Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls, or see if there is something new on the market. (Like this?)
There are also a number of other items in the Be Curly range, so maybe one of them would work better for me!
