Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color

Revlon ultra HD matte lipcolor

I wish I had the budget to buy multiple shades of a new product on a whim, but, I really don’t. I almost always research products before I buy them, which means I need to wait for people to actually try the product. Then there are the days I have a $5 off coupon for CVS. Then I buy the new Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color on a whim. The packaging looking fancy, the colors looked beautiful, the words ULTRA and MATTE are intriguing. But was my impulse buy worth it?

When I went to CVS, they only had a few of the colors on display, so I’m hoping to find a better stocked display soon. I chose the shade Devotion, which is a bright rosy pink shade that is very wearable for everyday. There is a peachier shade I’d like to try, and maybe the darker berry shade as well.

The packaging is a short, frosted tube where you can see the color of the product inside. The top is silver metallic. I’d say it’s pretty good for drugstore!

The product comes out on your pretty typical applicator, it’s sort of a square shape, but I’m not sure why. It holds the perfect amount of product to apply to the lips without getting gloopy.

The consistency of the product is very creamy and gel like. It’s so easy too apply because it isn’t too thick or thin. With an HD, highly pigmented product you want a precise line, and that is easy to achieve.

When the product goes on it looks quite glossy like a liquid lipstick. As it dries down it become more matte, but not super matte. I find if I apply less product and work it into the lips, it gives a more matte effect. Too much product looks much more shiny.

Now, I assumed at first this was one of those lip products that dries to your lips and doesn’t budge, but it’s not. It isn’t kiss proof or smudge proof, but does last quite a long time and wears off nicely.

Here you can see the product is still quite velvety on the lips, but it covers very well with just one coat.

Since the product is quite creamy and doesn’t completely dry, it’s actually super comfortable to wear and isn’t too drying.

I wore this for a full work day, reapplying after I ate lunch. The color sticks to the lips quite well, but definitely wears off with eating and drinking a bit.

After I took it off, I noticed my lips looked a little chapped and flaky, but that hadn’t been noticeable with the product on.

My only complaint is the scent. Why do companies need to pack fragrance into products! The scent a VERY strong fruity scent (like Fruit Stripes Gum), and by very, I mean VERY. It isn’t noticeable after application, but while applying it’s sickeningly strong.

I really want to try another shade or two of the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color because it is so comfortable to wear and looks great without much work.

I’ve been a big fan of all Revlon lip products I’ve tried, they really know what they’re doing!

  1. I first thought the colour would be bright pink but it looks so day-appropriate, wearable and pretty! Being a huge fan of matte lipsticks, I’ll definitely keep a lookout for this. Thanks for bringing it on my radar!

  2. I’ve been very curious about these Revlon Lippies and I keep reading nothing but great reviews on these. I guess it’s a sign that I need to pick some up for myself. Thanks for sharing and that shade looks gorgeous on you. xo

  3. I love the packaging and the gorgeous shade you chose! I have the Revlon HD Ultra Lipstick in two shades and they’re among my favorites.

  4. I was really disappointed that it wasn’t transfer-proof, but I do agree with you that it lasts a long time and fades nicely. It’s worth getting if there’s a sale, too, to bring down the price a bit 🙂
