April Empties 2015

Happy May everyone!! The sun in shining, the birds are chirping….but it still feels like March here in Philadelphia. Well at least today it does. It’s supposed to hit 80 next week despite the fact it barley hit 60 today. Ok anyway. Another month, and I’ve got a bunch of empties. Finished up a few items I’d had for awhile which always feels good. I love getting rid of stuff almost as much as I love new stuff. A lot of these are minis though, so it’s not actually as impressive as it looks.

Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie

I. Finished. A. Lip. Stick. Honestly, can ANY of you say that?! From the day I got it, Revlon Berry Smoothie was definitely a favorite. The color matched everything I wore and gave my lips the perfect amount of shine and color. It’s almost a ‘my lips but better’ color, but definitely on the berry side. I started using it more often because I was getting toward the end and just wanted to finish some thing. It will be missed, but I seriously have so much lipstick.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer

Jeez the name. You’ve probably seen this product floating around the blogesphere and YouTube. I felt like I was seeing good reviews of this left and right so I picked it up. First of all, it lasted a really long time. The packaging is weird, but there is a lot of product tucked in there! I definitely did not like this as much as everyone on YouTube. It was okay…but I found it didn’t blend too well under my eyes and it made my undereyes look dry. I don’t need a tone of coverage, so I’m trying to find something more hydrating now.

Lancome Youth Activating Concentrate

I received this little mini serum awhile ago with some other Lancome products. Last month I finished up a lotion from that set. This serum is crazy expensive if you buy a full size. I liked the formula…it wasn’t too sticky, dried easily…but I’m not sure I saw any difference. I found most of this month I was dealing with bad skin, so I guess this wasn’t helping, and if anything was the problem.

Michael Todd True Organic Intensive Eye Treatment

I was using this on and off for a long time, so it’s hard to say exactly how long it lasted me. Just when I was thinking it was a never ending tube, it ran out on me. I don’t like not being able to tell how much product is left!! Anyway. I really liked that this product was light weight. I have sensitive skin, and get a lot of milia around my eyes, so I can’t use anything to heavy in that area. A little bit went a long way too. It didn’t sink in too fast, so I would make sure it pat it in and let it dry a little.  Currently I’m actually experimenting with not using eye cream because my eyes have been really watery lately and my milia are getting worse. I’m seeing if not using eye cream does anything.

Julep Nail Polish in Kelly

Getting rid of a nail polish is another miracle feet for me this month. I can’t remember exactly, but I’m pretty sure this was the first or second nail polish I ever received from Julep Maven. Kelly is a ‘blush cream’ or just a really pale nude. I wore this color a lot as a base under other colors or with glitter. I used it earlier this month as a base under a white shimmer. It has just gotten really thick and hard to use so it’s time to toss it!

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat

I’ve used this top coat a million times. It dries quickly, and you can get going with your day. It’s great. I can NEVER really finish a bottle before it gets too goopy. Ugh. I will definitely repurchase this, but I decided to try a different top coat for a little. So far it was a bad idea.

Coola Mineral Sunscreen Matte Tint BB Cream

Can’t say much about this because there was barely any product in the sample! This product was similar to the Cotz Tinted Suncreen. It’s got a little bit of tint to it, perfect for by the pool or beach. I found I could feel it sitting on my face which was uncomfortable.

Coola Mineral Sunscreen Rose Essence Tinted Moisturizer

I don’t think I realized this product was called ‘Rose Essence’ until now. The scent definitely is a bit rosey! It’s got a light, refreshing, summer scent which I actually like quite a lot. There wasn’t too much coverage, so I tended to use this under mineral foundation. Could be worth trying if you’re looking for something light and don’t care about coverage.

Well that’s a wrap! I know for sure I’m going to have a good empties month next month too. I’m running low on a few thins already! And hopefully I will finish another lipstick….

  1. I am actually a big fan of the instant age rewind, but I don’t think it’s for everyone. Sometimes, even on me, it’s not hydrating enough and it can crease. My absolute favorite would have to be the NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer. That stuff doesn’t budge. I love it! Also, I love the Coola products. I’m out of a lot of their goodies and I need to re-stock!

  2. Isn’t it so exciting to finish a product, especially a lipstick! The only lippie I’ve ever used up (multiple times) is MAC Peach Blossom. I agree about the Maybelline concealer, its nice, but not holy grail status.

  3. Using up polish is for sure hard, esp when you get like a million through Julep. It looks thick even in the picture! Yup, toss for sure 🙂 And move on to something fun and vibrant, it’s SPRINGGGGGG!!! 🙂

  4. I can’t believe you finished up a lipstick either! Go girl. I used to get milia around my eyes also. My aesthetician suggested using eye gel rather than creams and it made a big difference.

  5. I love finishing up products too! Like when I finish a bottle of shampoo and throw it out, I feel so accomplished hahah. Ugh, I get milia too and they’re just the worst because they’re so hard to get rid of. I’m definitely going to take Allison’s tip up there and try using an eye gel instead of a cream!

  6. Holy cow, you finished a lipstick AND a nail polish!? I don’t know if I will ever be able to do that. :/ Anyway, now I want to try Berry Smoothie and I just picked up that concealer but I haven’t tried it yet.

  7. I’ve gotten rid of a ton of things lately, too. Although, they’re less “empties” than they are “I’m sick of using this, goodbye.”

I am almost done with a lipstick, and I agree, it’s quite a feat!

I used to like the Sally Hansen top coat too, but I had the same problem with it getting goopy about halfway down. But honestly, I think most top coats do that…? Also, while I loved how quickly it dried, my polish would peel off in sheets in about a day or two.

  8. I like this top coat also.I used a little more than half and it became denser and it’s harder to apply.:/ But it really works very good!

  9. I’ve never finished a lipstick, so congrats! I’m really close to finishing up a limited edition MAC one I have, so maybe I’ll make that my goal for the future. Also, I’m sorry you’re having eye troubles! My eyes water like crazy since I have chronic dryness, but I’ve found that using eye drops has helped. Do you think maybe you’re applying eye cream too close to your eye? I used to put it right under my lashline ,but now I try to stay about half an inch away, and that has helped me I think. I hope you find a solution!

  10. If your Juleps get too hard and goopy you can try a polish thinner in order to get some more life out of them. Zoya makes a decent one!

    1. I’ve heard that before but never tried it. Any nail polish I’ve had that got goopy was also pretty old so I didn’t mind getting rid of it. I might want to try some thinner on my Butter London ones though because I really don’t want to get rid of them!
