If I didn’t limit myself, I’d go on for ages about my favorite product discoveries of 2014, so I decided to limit myself to 14, since it was 2014, and that makes sense. I’ve got some skin care, some make up, some natural items I fell in love with and some non natural ones I just couldn’t live without. I don’t see why I wouldn’t continue using these products for years to come…
1. The Body Shop Shower Gels
This year I used the Satsuma, Coconut and Pink Grapefruit shower gels, and well, I fell in love. I’d say 99% of it is the scents. I don’t expect a body wash to do much more than get me clean, so I want it to smell amazing and make my whole bathroom smell amazing. I thought the Satsuma was the best scent on earth, but then I tried coconut…then grapefruit…I think I need to try them all before I’ll be happy.
2. Jack Black Lip Balm
Last Christmas my boyfriend’s sister got him a Jack Black Lip Balm, along with some other JB stuff. I had been wanting to try the balm for so long so I was very excited. After using that little blue tube all year, I’m seriously obsessed. Lucky for me we got a set of THREE for Christmas this year! I find them so moisturizing, and the moisture stays. No need to reapply, but I do anyway because why not.
I’m pretty sure I’ve had the Revlon Balm Stain in Honey since 2013, but I just really fell in love this year. It seems like so often I don’t know what lip shade to wear and I just end up wearing Honey. It’s the perfect my lips but better shade. It’s a little darker and pinker than a natural color, so it’s easy to wear but looks great.
Over the year I used the Andalou Naturals Brightening toner, and the Clarifying toner. Both are just so great! The brightening one feels so refreshing on the skin and smells like clementines. The clarifying one makes pores feel super clean. I alternate use depending on how my skin is that week.
Also from Andalou, the clarifying Pure Pore Serum. Sadly I started and finished using this product already, but a repurchase is in the future. Like the toner, it makes my skin feel very clean and helps reduce the appearance of pores. It also sinks into the skin quickly which I love so you can follow up with moisturizer.
6. Tea Tree Therapy Tea Tree Oil
Probably the most interesting natural item I discovered this year, Tea Tree oil. It took me awhile to get used to it and figure out how to use it, but now it’s a staple in my skin care routine. When my skin is looking bad, I add a few drops to another oil and rub all over my face. It helps reduce acne and redness. Just be careful, it’s strong stuff!
The ways of oils were a huge discovery for me this year. I’d never used a cleansing oil before so was eager to try out this one from DHC when they sent it to me. It smells and looks like olive oil which was fine with me, since I love olive oil. I was amazed how easily the oil broke up make up and cleaned my skin. I can’t wait to try more cleansing oils in 2015!
I’ve got a full review of this coming soon on the blog. I purchased this very late in 2014 but new within one use it was going to be a keeper. With winter in full swing now, my skin is just parched. Moisturizers weren’t doing anything so I had to switch to something better. This mask keeps my skin hydrated all night. When I wake up my skin feels so soft and looks so plump. A must have for the winter.
I purchased the Laura Mercier Mineral Powder very early in the year, so I’ve had all year to decide how I feel. Mineral make up is awesome!! I can’t believe how well it covers, how natural it looks, and how easy it actually is to use. My skin looks so smooth when I use this, but my skin can still breath. Can’t wait to try other mineral powders.
10. Covergirl Clump Crusher
I never thought it’d actually happen, but I have a favorite mascara! Usually I like a mascara for a few weeks, then I just get over it and move onto the next one. When I tried Covergirl Clump Crusher, I found myself actually really liking it, and have actually repurchased. It definitely is clump free. The wand separates my lashes like a dream. It’s not too heavy on my lashes either, so it’s great to wear all day.
Once upon a time I heard Essie Button say that a MAC 217 brush was the only eye brush you needed. Well, it’s kind true. Something about the shape of it makes it perfect for everything I ever need to do with shadow. Now I never do any complicated looks, but for everyday use, it really is all I need.
12. Rimmel Scandaleyes Liner in Nude
Back in high school I always wore black liner in my water line because that’s just what you do when you’re a teen. My mom always complained and told me to use nude liner instead because it would make my eyes look bigger. After years and years, I finally understand it. I use the nude liner from Rimmel almost everyday now. It’s so creamy and easy to apply on the delicate water line.
13. L’Oreal True Match Foundation
The first foundation I ever wore was the L’Oreal True Match. I bought bottle after bottle for years, then just…stopped. I finally thought I should try it again because I’d been seeing bloggers talking about all over YouTube. I’ve been wearing it for months now, and don’t know why I ever stopped! It’s light weight, gives the skin a glow, and looks natural on the skin.
14. Stila Stay All Day Liner
Oh liquid eyeliner, what a difficult world you are. When I first started using the Stila Stay All Day Liner, I thought I’d never get used to it. Something happened in the last few months though, and I’m getting the hang of it! The Stila liner has a thin point so you can control the thickness of the line, and it really stays all day!
