Disappointing Products #2

disappointing products

Disclaimer! Disclaimer! I am in no way saying these products are bad, I’m just saying they didn’t work for me, or didn’t perform like I expected. I still use them, but they did not meet my expectations, and thus will not be repurchased. With so many products in the world, it’s hard to not try them all. And with so many different skin types, preferences, skin tones, whatever, it’s hard to figure out if one person’s rave will even work for you. Sometimes I’ll love a product for a month, then realize it’s doing nothing for me, or I’ll pick something up on a whim and be disappointed immediately.

Batiste Dry Shampoo in ‘Cool & Crisp’

So maybe I’m just not a dry shampoo lover, but I really don’t understand this stuff. Like, if my hair is dirty, why don’t I just wash it? So I wash my hair twice a week, maybe more if it’s been particularly sweaty, or if I’ve used a lot of product. I decided to try out Batiste to see if it could give my hair an extra day without needing a wash. Instead, I felt like the product made my hair feel even dirtier. It felt oily and not as soft. Also, I now associate the smell of the product with having dirty hair. Maybe I’ll try a different dry shampoo?

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque

For only a few bucks, I’m not mad at all that I didn’t love this product. I love what this product is supposed to do, but I didn’t see any difference after using it, and I’ve used it a lot. The product is a thick, green, toothpaste mask that is supposed to help with acne, blackheads and large pores. I’d reserve use of this product for when my skin was looking pretty bad. A few uses a week, my pores were still clogged, and my skin didn’t look much different. I also found it incredibly hard to wash off, since it’s SO thick!

the Balm Bahama Mama Bronzer

Now I’m pretty much in love with most the Balm products, but this bronzer just didn’t do it for me. Not sure what to do with it, because I pretty much never reach for it now. My main complaint is that the product is super powdery. Every attempt at use I get bronze powder all over. I also find this makes it a little hard to apply, because it just ends up everywhere. My second complaint is that the color is just SO DARK. Yes, I bought it online, so I didn’t know, but who can use a shade this dark? I sometimes use it as an eyeshadow, but find it a bit too red toned sometimes.

Sinful Colors in Dream OnΒ

Another super cheap product, so who can really complain, but I’ve had some really good cheap nail polishes before. I saw this shade from Sinful Colors at Wal Mart and literally stopped in my tracks. It’s so bright and neony, but also a really cool pinky purple shade…I just needed it. I went to work painting my nails the next day. The day after that I was repainting them because the polish had chipped SO badly!! I’m thinking part of that is the neon forumla. It was so thin…maybe I should just try again?

products i regret buying

Once again, these are all my personal opinions, sorry if you love any of these, as I’m SURE some of you do! Maybe I need some tips for application?

  1. I have the same polish. I was suckered in by the color, too. A good base and topcoat help it last a little longer, but it still is prone to chipping. I use it mostly for nail art to make flowers or polka dots now so that I can enjoy the color one on my nails.

  2. I love all the colors sinful colors has at a great price, but yeah I had the same prob with chipping 😁 a good coat of Sally Hansen top coat does the job 😊 xx

  3. Dry Shampoo is for folks like me who get super oily roots. If I don’t shampoo every day my roots can get greasy and look awful so the dry shampoo helps offset that if there’s a night I’m just too tired to do the whole shampoo & condition routine. That being sad, some dry shampoos are awful. So far my favorite is Lulu Organics.

  4. I did a similar list a while ago and almost included my Batiste dry shampoo! I have a love hate relationship with it..some days it works and sometimes it makes my hair feel even more dirty. Plus like you, I now associate the smell of it with dirty hair! lol

  5. Awe, sorry to hear about your luck with these products. I’ve just recently started looking into dry shampoo’s myself and it seems it’s a “try, try again” type deal for everyone. I also have a Sinful polish that I got in a PinchMe box, but I haven’t had the chance to try it yet. I do agree that even if a product is inexpensive, it should still be quality or doesn’t deserve to be in my life πŸ˜‰ I will say that with polishes prone to chipping, a good base and top coat applied to your toes NOT hands will help you to enjoy the color muchhhh longer since your toes don’t see as much wear as your hands. Of course, that’s during the summer with open toe shoes but you may still have a month or two of warmish weather depending on where you live!
