Drugstore Spotlight: Eyes

drugstore eye products

For the third edition of my drugstore series, I’m focusing on eyes! I’ve got everything from cream to powder, eyeliner, even a primer! There is so much to look at in terms of eyes at the drugstore. Some can be amazing, and some can be down right awful. Over the years I’ve picked up some products here and there, so today I will show you some of the eye products I’ve got on hand.

revlon gel eye liner

Revlon Colorstay Gel Eyeliner- The world of liner is a difficult one. Some smudge, some flake. Some aren’t black enough, and that wing? Oh forget the wing. In my early attempts at the world of liner I tried the Revlon Gel Liner. I thought gel looked easy to use and would be a good place to start. I don’t wear black liner on my lash line too often, but when I do, I want it to stay. I think this Revlon gel liner was easy to apply evenly and it sure does stay!

Rimmel Scandal Water Proof Kohl Liner in Nude- My mother always told me to wear white or nude liner on my waterline to make my eyes look bigger. But I was a teenager and thought black looked cooler, so that’s what I went with. Now, I see what she was talking about. The Rimmel liners are so smooth and creamy. This nude shade makes the eyes pop and reduces redness from allergies or lack of sleep.

maybelline color tattoo inked in pink

Maybelline Color Tattoos (Pictured is Inked in Pink)- I love ALL the Maybelline Color Tattoos, but I only pictured one today. A creamy eyeshadow that blends evenly and stays all day without creasing? AND it’s cheap? It couldn’t be any better. I use a Maybelline Color Tattoo the majority of the time I do make up. They are so easy and so versatile.

Wet & Wild Color Icon Shadow (Pictured is Sugar)- Sometimes I think I’ve got enough palettes. Single shadows are perfect when you’re just looking for that one perfect shade. The Wet & Wild eye shadows are so cheap it’s just stupid. I picked up this color Sugar when I wanted a really white, sparkly eye for a halloween costume. The shadow was much more pigmented than I expected and a smooth creamy formula.

nyx glitzy gold, nyx eye primer

NYX HD Eyeshadow Base-  I never ever used an eye primer until…maybe 2 years ago. A Sephora sales women asked me what primer I used and I was like ‘Uhm, I don’t use that’. So she convinced me to buy one and now I don’t know how I lasted without one. I picked up this NYX one to see how it compared to my beloved NARS primer, and so far it’s been working pretty well. It’s slightly beige tinted which helps give a better base for shadow. I don’t have the oiliest lids, but this primer helps my shadows stay crease free all day.

NYX Slide On Pencil in Glitzy Gold-  So I’m like in love with this eyeliner. The rest of the ‘Slide On’ line aren’t the most wearable colors, but this gold is AWESOME! The liner is the silkiest liner ever. Pretty comparable to the Urban Decay liners. This gold color is so metallic, but just the perfect shade that I don’t think it looks tacky. I love lining my eyes with this because the light reflects off and looks so bright!

covergirl ginger flame

Covergirl Trio in Shimmering Sands-A cheap, neutral little trio. For just a few bucks, this is such a good buy. I like packing this when I’m traveling or just going home for the weekend. The colors a really wearable and I can get a few different looks from it. When I go home I tend not to wear a lot of make up, so I can throw these colors on really easily. The shades are a pretty shimmery, but not glittery and have good color payoff.

Covergirl Flamed out Shadow Pencil in Ginger Flame- One of those items I picked up for no reason, but happily fell in love. I love pink eyes. I have pretty tan skin and dark hair so I think it looks really good, but I don’t think it works for everybody. This shadow stick is pretty basic. It’s creamy enough to blend out, but stay put most of the day. This shade is a light shimmery pink which I LOVE with a little gold shadow over top.

  1. Good to know the NYX primer is a good one. I know what you mean about not knowing how you got along without a primer! I was in the same boat. It’s a ‘must use’ now. Thanks for sharing :0)

    1. I only have one color, and honestly haven’t used it ton just because I have way too many other shadows. I like it, but find it a bit too shimmery for everyday use
