Drugstore Spotlight: Foundation

revlon colorstay

The drugstore has some surprisingly good foundations. The only high end one I use is the Laura Mercier Mineral Powder…other than that I feel like the drugstore can satisfy my foundation needs. The drugstore has light coverage, high coverage, liquid, powder, matte finish, dewey finish…anything your little heart may desire. I’ve currently got three drugstore foundations rotating in my routine that cover the bases I’m looking for…in a base. 🙂

Revlon Colorstay

I wear Revlon Colorstay for any event/party/date where I want to look my best, and make sure it lasts the entire time I need it to. I wore this lovely foundation for 16 or so hours on my graduation day. The formula is thick which gives really high coverage, but can be a little messy to blend out. I prefer to use a damp sponge because it gives you a little extra time to blend before the product dries. I also tend to use Colorstay if I’m having an exceptionally bad skin week, but I’m not a huge fan of the look of it in daylight.

L’Oreal Magic Nude

This interesting product is my go to in the summer months. Magic Nude is a liquid to powder formula, which in my opinion is quite fancy for the drugstore! I’ve heard a lot of good and bad about this product, but I honestly quite like it. The formula is very liquidy which is a bit messy, but I just wash my hands after. I apply the product with my hands, and as I blend it turns into a powdery formula (which feels a tad greasy). The color I have is a bit dark for me, but it blends out so well, that it just gives me a natural looking tan. Since the formula is so thin, it sinks into the skin, and the powder aspect gives it a soft look. I was surprised with the lasting power too, I find it lasts most of the day pretty well, as long as I don’t have many spots to cover up.

Rimmel Wake Me Up

By far, my favorite foundation for an everyday base is the Rimmel Wake Me Up. You can’t get this in the states, but I got mine on a trip to Vancouver. (I’ve seen it online a number of places). I’ve heard people say Wake Me Up is similar to Nars Sheer Glow. The product is medium coverage with a bit of a dewey glow to it that wakes up the skin and makes you look fresh and healthy. It smooths onto the skin beautifully, and the effect is just gorgeous. I’m going through it pretty fast which is annoying since I can’t get my hands on it easily! Oh, and it comes with a PUMP!! Miracles, baby…miracles.

Extra Goodies

Rimmel Stay Matte

I’ve been using the Rimmel Stay Matte powder to set my foundation for about a month now, and I’m really loving it. It’s easy, it’s cheap, it gets the job done. Only downside is the packaging isn’t too sturdy. Mine is already broken so I need to buy something else for traveling.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind

Another product that it just easy. This Maybelline concealer twists up and the product comes out of the sponge applicator. No ‘double dipping’ with a wand! It blends well, and so far I haven’t had too many problems with creasing (which is like my biggest make up problem).
