“No More Dirty Looks” Book Review

no more dirty looks

Way back when I first started blogging, I started reading a book called “Look Great, Live Green” (See my first post about it HERE) The book was about the chemicals that go into most everyday cosmetics products, how they effect your skin, and better, cleaner, alternatives. I absolutely loved the book and immediately started searching for another one to read. I settled on a book called “No More Dirty Looks” by Siobhan O’Connor and Alexandra Spunt, and I just finished reading it!

If you’re new to the world of ‘clean beauty’ this book is the PERFECT place to start. The authors start off by talking about the history of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which really opened my eyes to how the agency works.

There is a whole chapter on the worst chemicals found in most everyday beauty products. They explain what is harmful about the chemical, and why it shouldn’t be in product we slather on our skin. This list of ingredients makes it easy to pin point the chemicals in the products you currently own.

The best part of the book are the chapters that focus on the different product categories. There is a chapter on the body, the face, make up, hair…This makes it really easy to use as a tool to go back too. At the end of each chapter there are a few product recommendations for healthy, natural, chemical free alternatives for EVERYTHING you would ever need. Shampoo, deodorant, tanner, foundation, even styling products! Next time I run out of something, I will use this book to go back to and see what they suggest as a better alternative.

There are even chapters that focus on what you eat and your lifestyle, and how they can effect the health of your skin. These ladies covered EVERYTHING!

I won’t bother going into too many details, because honestly there is just SO much to say. Every sentence in “No More Dirty Looks” is just as important as the next. The best part? It is written in a way that is super easy to understand, and a little witty and funny so it is a joy to read.

If you’re unfamiliar with how chemicals effect the skin, do yourself a favor and pick up this book and give it a read. Make yourself an informed citizen!!

I’ve been using more natural options for months now, and I can see a big difference in the overall appearance of my skin. It’s so easy to make the switch, and your whole body (and the environment) will thank you.

You can get “No More Dirty Looks” on Amazon for like $12.

They also have a blog you can read to learn more about natural beauty, if you don’t feel like reading a whole book.

If I can convince even ONE person to make the switch to natural products, I’d be so, so happy. You don’t have to throw out your whole medicine cabinet…Just next time you need a new shampoo, buy something more natural. I’m making the switch slowly, but it’s been so fun!

  1. You’re blog is so pretty! I’ve spoken about this on my blog to some degree but I’ve not heard of these books so I’m super keen to read them but I’m in the UK so maybe I will have to wait till I am stateside 🙂

  2. Thanks so much for posting about this book! I love to read and am slowly but surely starting to weed out products that are tested on animals and am really trying to buy more products with natural ingredients and such. I especially love learning more about the beauty world!
