I’m sure you’ve heard of these beauties, after all they DO have the longest name of any lip product ever. The L’Oreal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stains are one of the most amazing lip products from the drug store. Long lasting, beautiful colors, hydrating, easy to use, high end packaging….I could go on. And I will.
I have three colors, Stubborn Plum, Rose On and On, and Coral Tattoo. There are 12 total shades in the range, anywhere from super light pink to dark berry reds. The lighter shades are VERY light, and the darker shades pack more of a punch.
From L’Oreal: “Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain combines the power of a lip stain with lip-gloss luster.”
That sums it up perfectly. The product goes on like a gloss, looks like a gloss, feels like a gloss, but STAINS for beautiful long lasting color, that isn’t drying. Which is like a miracle, right?
The wand is short which gives much more control than a longer wand. The flat surface of the applicator makes it much easier and faster to apply the color on the lips. The color you see when the tube is closed is the real product, so you know exactly what color you are buying.
The packaging comes off much more high end than some other drug store items. The shiny gold tube looks pretty on my vanity and is easy to find in my purse.
The Wet Shine Stains are…WET. It can feel a little weird on first application because they feel a little different than a gloss. Above are swatches of one layer of each color. (L to R: Stubborn Plum, Coral Tattoo, Rose On and On). For darker shades, 1 coat could be enough, but I usually apply 2 or 3 layers.
The major thing I can tell you is WAIT a minute or so before applying a second or third layer. This allows the product to dry and stain a bit without disrupting the layers.
Here are the same colors with 3 layers. You can see they get much more vibrant. Rose On and On is the lightest of the 3, so that definitely needs 3 layers. Coral Tattoo gets very bright, and 2 layers would be enough there.
Overall, I really love how the L’Oreal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stains feel on my lips, and especially how long they last. I usually reapply a layer every few hours to keep it glossy, but that isn’t necessary. I really want to pick up one of the red shades so I have a good range of colors.
