Ugh, I can’t decide if I want to keep getting Birchbox or not.
It’s awesome getting interesting beauty products in the mail, but sometimes, I get things I just do not need. Also, I’m really trying to start using more natural beauty items, and Birchbox doesn’t really care about that kind of stuff. Also, I’m getting overwhelmed with the amount of samples I have! I currently have 3 shampoos and 3 conditioners sitting in my closet. I have 2 mascaras, 3 tinted moisturizers…I can’t go through it fast enough!
I guess let’s just get into the products, then I’ll figure out where I really stand.
Benefit Girl Meets Pearl: This is a cream highlighter in a pearly pink finish. It has a good amount of shimmer, that you don’t look like a disco ball, but you have a slight glow. I prefer powder highlighters because I find I have an easier time applying them. I liked the color, and I liked the shimmer level, but it is just the application I’m not too fond of.
Karuna Clarifying Treatment Mask: This is one of those cloth mask things. I haven’t actually used it yet, but I’m assuming it is going to be just like every mask ever. It feels nice, smells nice, but a day later you can’t tell the difference. We will see! I will most likely use it this Sunday.
Bain de Terre Shampoo and Conditioner: These smell really nice, which is a huge part of liking hair care products. Other than that, not much positive to say. That is mostly because they advertise themselves as ‘paraben free’ which is true…but there are other harmful chemicals in the product. It is deceiving and manipulative.
ChapStick Hydration Lock: Okay, uhm, isn’t Birchbox supposed to be ‘luxury’ beauty items? Not $3 ChapSticks? Yes, this lip balm feels nice, and has a mild vanilla taste, but I didn’t need to be sent it, and I’m not thrilled about seeing it here. I now have 9 lip balms. I never need to buy lip balm again.
So, I don’t know. This month was a fail, but sometimes I get an item or two I really like. I’m thinking I’ll try one more month, and if I don’t love it, I’m going to quit. I’ve been interested to try some of the subscription services that offer more natural items.
Despite any think negative I said here, Birchbox definitely is fun, so if you want to try it out, sign up here!
