July Ipsy vs Birchbox 2013

Sorry this is a bit late, but these boxes came while I was in Michigan and I didn’t get back to my apartment till a few days ago! You can imagine my excitement when I walked into my building and saw two cute bright pink packages waiting for me. I’ve only recently started getting Birchbox…and I’m falling in love. I wish I could pick a favorite, because I’m starting to be overwhelmed by the amount of deluxe samples floating around my bed room. Since I have now had the products for a few days I have been able to try a few out. I’ll have mini reviews on what I have tested.

Ipsy Beach Beauty

The bag: This months make up bag is a neon pink plastic tube. I like the idea of this for the beach or pool since it is waterproof, but I don’t really go to those places, so it may not be very useful. Love the color though!

Benefit Benetint: I already have Benetint, so I know I love this stuff. I love reddish blushes on me, I think they look really warm and sophisticated. I’m glad to see a Benefit product in an Ipsy bag since it is a great company. This tiny size will be awesome for traveling or throwing in a purse.

BH Cosmetics California Collection Palette: BH came out with three California palettes this season, San Francisco, Malibu and Hollywood. In this mini palette there is one color from each collection. I’ve never tried an BH products so I was excited to test them. The color are interesting, a little glittery for me. They aren’t very pigmented and seem a bit powdery. I found they wear a lot better with a cream base or primer.

Big Sexy Hair Weather Proof Hairspray: I haven’t tried this yet, but I’m sure it is going to be great. I don’t have a travel size hairspray so I’m glad I now have this to throw in my bag when I travel. Hairspray is a must for me, and as long as it isn’t too crunchy, it will be perfect!

Coola Tinted Moisturizer: Another new brand for me, Coola has been popping up everywhere lately. I keep seeing bloggers talk about it and now I get to try it for myself. This tinted moisturizer is surprisingly a good color match for me. It isn’t greasy, and blends in smoothly. It has very little coverage, but for ‘no make up days’ it will be a good thing to try.

Pop Beauty Pouty Pop Crayon: I LOVE lip crayons. I find them to be great because they are easier to apply than a lipstick. I’ve only tried this one once, and wasn’t too impressed. It didn’t seem to be as moisturizing as it should be. The color fell into the lines of my lips and made them look really dry. The color is a nice pinkish nude though. Maybe I just need to exfoliate a bit more?

BirchBox Power Play

Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper: I haven’t used this yet (for some reason…) but I’m excited! I’m always looking for a new product for my mop of curly hair. I’m not sure there will even be enough in this packet for my hair, but I’ll give it a try. Unlike most products in a Birchbox, a full size of this is only $10…so let’s hope I like it.

DDF Acne Control Treatment: A company I’ve never tried…or heard of! I normally don’t buy any acne related products, but I’ve actually been having some skin issues this week, so this came at the perfect time. This is supposed to be an overnight treatment with salicylic acid. I’ve used it the past few nights, and I think it has been working! I’ve just got a few little spots, they haven’t gotten any worse, and some of them aren’t gone completely. I’m going to continue testing this, but it is expensive for a full size, so I doubt I’d buy it.

The Balm Cosmetics InStain Blush: I love the Balm, I love blush, I love long wearing…I was so excited to try this! The color I got wasn’t my favorite, but I don’t have anything like it, so I guess that is nice. This blush is VERY pigmented, and really does stain. Really the only problem I have with it is that in the little sample, it is hard to get the product evenly distributed on the brush. I felt like the product ended up mostly on one spot on my face and was hard to blend. I don’t like my blush to be too obvious. I’ll continue testing it, and maybe buy a full size in a different color.

Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream: This cream is supposed to repair skin damage and provide hydration. I haven’t tried this yet, but I have a plan. Once a few of the spots on my face heal, I’m going to try this out to see if it helps with any scaring and redness. I don’t really have skin damage, but my skin does tend to get red on my cheeks. Anything that can help with that is awesome!

Beauty Extra Bobby Pins: Every month there is a “beauty extra” thrown in, this month it is bobby pins. They are cute, with a little white and blue pattern. I do like fancy bobby pins, so it is a nice addition. They seem a bit tight though, like they might be hard to use.

Overall, I don’t know if I can pick a winner!! Maybe Ipsy? I don’t know. They rule.
